What To Expect
Being well-prepared for your appointment will ensure that the doctor has all of the needed information to provide the best possible care for you. It also will help relieve any unnecessary anxiety you may be feeling. Educate yourself on your symptoms by reviewing the content on this Web site. Also, take some time to review our staff page and familiarize yourself with the doctor. Don't forget to Find and Bring your Dental Insurance Card and or Verify from your HR department that you have active coverage and the name and information of the insurance company. And don't forget to fill out the new patient forms and bring them in or arrive about 15 minutes before your appointment to fill out any paperwork we may still need from you.

Medications and Medical conditions and Surgeries, Physician's Phone numbers:

Please make a list of all your medications and dosages and what medical conditions you take them for and bring it to the appointment. Check with your physician if you have had any recent heart surgery within the last 6 months or have ever had any heart valve surgery, to be sure you are healthy enough for dental visits and to see if you should take a prescription antibiotic to premedicate for your heart conditions prior to your dental visits. Don't go off of any of your medications without your Physician's approval as many times the dentist doesn't require it. We also need to know the dates of any joint replacement surgeries you may have had to be sure if we need to premedicate you with antibiotics like we do for certain heart conditions. We usually require antibiotic premedication for joint replacements within 2 years of the dental visit, and we need to know any and all antibiotics and other medications you have ever been allergic to.

There are a few different ways we like to bring new patients into the office for appointments:

A New Patient Comprehensive Examination is for when you have not had a cleaning in a while or you have some minor concerns or a lot of major concerns, such as painful or broken teeth in many areas of your mouth, and we will provide a number of xrays as needed to diagnose and a detailed examination and discussion on the health of your teeth and gums and your options to restore them.

A Limited Examination is needed if you have a problem come up between cleanings or want us to focus on one or two teeth, maybe an emergency - severe pain or broken tooth, or sensitive area, in which case we'll spend our time and focus on the specific problem area and hopefully provide some treatment to help you feel better.

A Periodic Exam is when you are here for your regular 6 month checkup and cleaning. We will do our best to work you in for any needed treatment for problems you have while you are here for the cleaning, if it's convenient for you, but we also want to respect the time of our other patients already scheduled as well.

We hope you find all the information you need on our site, and we look forward to your first visit with us at Berger Family Dental!
